Separate the content from the controls
Choose a report that serves two or three distinct audiences. Allow the explanatory text and chart selection to vary by audience, while keeping filters, export, source inspection and navigation in the same places.
Make each version understandable
Show the reporting period, source data and any assumptions. Use accessible chart descriptions and an equivalent table for important values. Ask participants to find the same fact in different versions and to identify when the source information is incomplete.
Evaluate the useful difference
The prototype would compare an adaptive report with a consistent baseline. Record task completion, interpretation errors and the effort needed to repeat a task. Keep the adaptive elements only where they improve understanding; novelty alone would not justify a more complicated interface.
