The context · November 2025

Google’s November 2025 Gemini 3 announcement described new experiences in the Gemini app, including generative interfaces. [1]

Variation creates a navigation problem

A generated interface can organise information around a specific request. It can also move controls, rename actions and make a previously simple task unpredictable. Users should not have to inspect a new layout to discover how to go back, correct an input or understand what has been saved.

Keep the important controls stable

Let the content and supporting visualisation adapt while preserving navigation, action labels and confirmation patterns. Use familiar input elements with clear keyboard focus. Important actions need an understandable state before and after execution, regardless of how the surrounding presentation was generated.

Test repeat use

A first impression can reward novelty. A second or tenth use reveals whether people can build confidence and habits. Ask participants to repeat a task, recover from a mistake and explain what the system did. The stronger interface is the one they can operate with less uncertainty.
