The context · February 2025
Anthropic introduced Claude 3.7 Sonnet and an early preview of Claude Code in February 2025, connecting reasoning models more closely to day-to-day software development. [1]
Where time really goes
A development team can generate more code without shipping more useful software. Someone still has to understand the change, check its behaviour and decide whether it belongs in the product. When generation accelerates, that review step can become the limiting factor.
Choose work with a clear boundary
Well-scoped maintenance work is easier to evaluate than an instruction to improve an entire application. Describe the observed problem, the intended behaviour and the parts of the system that should remain untouched. Give the assistant the project conventions and a reliable way to check its work.
Judge the whole cycle
Track the time from a task being opened to a reviewed change being accepted. Count rework, defects and reviewer interruptions. A tool earns its place when it improves that whole cycle. More generated lines, longer sessions and convincing explanations are poor substitutes for evidence that the product works better.
